Dear Sir,

This is regarding Venkat Swaminathan’s praise for the Tamil Dictionary brought out by Crea. He is of the opinion that the recognition of Makkal Thamizh given by that dictionary is welcome. He also criticizes the Tamil purists.

While I am a purist at heart , I am not against Makkal Thamizh. Just as too much of purism is bad, too much of what goes on in the name of Makkal Thamizh is also not good for the language.
If Crea and Venakt Swaminathan are really serious about Makkal Thamizh, then
they should rename crea as kiriya. As a rough estimate, 70 percentage of thamizh makkal cannot pronounce the word crea.

When Tolkappiar wanted to avoid northern sounds, he was keeping precisely makkal thamizh in his mind.

Times have changed and now more and more tamils can now
pronounce the sounds ja, sha etc. Perhaps these sounds are inevitable these days.

But I am afraid that Makkal Thamizh has become an excuse for people who are secret lovers of sanskrit and who would like to see Tamil loose its uniqueness.

Sincerely,
Sengadir.
