The Scent of Green Papaya

The Scent of Green Papaya is a Vietnamese film
produced in France by Lazennec Production, and directed by

Vietnamese-French director Tran Anh Hung.

The film won the Caméra d’Or prize at the 1993 Cannes Film

ceremony, and was shortlisted for the 1993 Academy Award for Best

the director’s first collaboration with Vietnamese composer Tôn-Thât

Tiêt who subsequently composed the music for two more films:

An evocative exploration of a Vietnamese servant girl’s private

world, set in Saigon, circa 1951, a few years before the French defeat

at Dien Bien Phu, and 1961, when tensions between the Vietcong
